Hi guys,
I know that with this topic title you'll think you already have the answer here, but i look for it and i couldn't find.
I decide to use arch linux on my pc. Before I was using debian but i wanted to try out arch, and it's great! My problem is that i'm using openbox, and on debian i can bind the "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" key to increase the volume. Now It doesn't detect that key. With xev on terminal, i get nothing when i press that key so i can't bind it.
I already try with and without "acpi_osi=Linux" on the grub entry. I'm with 2.6.39 kernel, and i have acpi-eeepc-generic installed too.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can try to use xbindkeys. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xbindkeys

Thanks for the reply stlarch. I tried xbindkeys and i get the same problem i have with xev, it can't detect the volume keys. I have gnome and openbox and in gnome the keys work, but i can't bind it. I don't know how gnome can use it if xev and xbindkeys don't even bind they.

Sorry, I see that now. Maybe take a look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ex … board_Keys , and see if anything helps. There's a section at the bottom dealing with some Asus laptops, not sure if it applies to yours. edit: Or this, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Eee_PC_1000HE

I read all of that, and doesn't work. The first link you gave me also needs that xev detect the keys. The second link i already tried everything there.
It's weird because this problem use to happen in another distros I already tested, but the "acpi_osi=linux" command in grub used to solve the problem. I don't know if it's kernel's fault, that doesn't work like before, or if I'm missing something. This problem is not a big deal, because I can use a different key bind to do the trick. Is just that I would like to have everything working, and also doing that I learn more about linux

Do you get any event at all when pressing the key? Like, a KeymapNotify event? Could be something else is grabbing the key.
And, what about XF86AudioLowerVolume? Is that also undetected?
I myself also use a 1000HE, but don't use the ACPI scripts. No problems here.

Actually, I was receiving a KeymapNotify event and I when i went copy it to paste here, the Key started to work. I have no idea what happen, because I did not change anything from the last time a checked. But it is working now..thanks for your help.
Are you using openbox too with 1000HE Guff?

Hmm. No idea. I would assume something else was grabbing the keys, but I don't have a good enough understanding of how that's handled to speculate further.
Nah, currently running awesome, although I've used openbox along with many other WMs/DEs in the past without any issues.

After pressing your media key, what does dmesg | tail tell you?
