Settings are not saved - network and touchpad

At one point while trying to set up my network, I set up a static IP. After I had managed to fix the problem, I wanted to go back to using DHCP. If I open Network Settings, I can adjust the settings to use DHCP, but when I reboot, networkmanager reverts back to using the static IP settings I had made a while back. Every time I start up the laptop, I have to readjust the settings and disable and re-enable the wireless. I have added myself to the network group. The only change that made was that I didn't need to type in the root password to change the settings.

I also have made changes to my touchpad settings using gsynaptics and gpointing-device-settings. Everything worked great after I run those programs and change the settings, but as soon as I rebooted, the settings were lost. I thought of changing the settings as root and now the settings appear to be the same when I start gpointing-device-settings, however they do not actually work until I change something and click Save.
