Unplugging an USB-pen with no writes to it.

Hello!

When you unplug an USB-pen, for instance, is it necessary to umount it, when it has not been written to, only read?

And I am thinking, more than advised to do so.

Yes, if you mount something, unmount it when you're done.

Don't know about FAT 32 but I believe there IS something written on the pendrive, for example access time.

I regularly unplug mounted usb sticks without umounting, after read-only sessions - no adverse affects so far.

After any changes though, I always umount first.
