Does thunar really need gamin?

In wiki, I see that thunar needs gamin or fam, so that it can detect whether a file or a directory has been modified. But in my Archlinux, I don't have gamin or fam installed, while my thunar still works well. So, my question is: is gamin necessary for thunar?

No, but if a file changes in a director being shown, it will not update automatically.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't had gamin/fam installed, but if I delete a file in Thunar, it will disappear right now. It doesn't need my manual refresh.

delete a file using your terminal and watch it not disappear in thunar...

Hmm I don't have gamin/fam installed and files I deleted using terminal is automatically removed from Thunar windows.
