Gnome 3 sound. Blowing my ears off -.-

I just updated to banshee 2.2, which apparently changes the audio settings so that the slider bar for audio affects the entire system,  and now I fear blowing my ears off.  It only takes a few notches for the audio to feel like listening to an ipod at 100%.

I was wondering if I can change the setting in gnome 3, or whatever program I need to use, to make the slider bar less sensitive.  I'd like to be able to have some more accuracy in the loudness of the audio.
