Apache <VirtualHost _default_:443> in httpd-ssl.conf

Why we need virtual host in httpd-ssl.conf configuration? I just cannot understand.

"_default_" reffers to 127.0.0.1 or what?

Default is used when no vhost claims a request for a certain IP. In other words, this is the configuration that is going to be used when you add an IP to your server and the server has no configuration for that IP yet.
