[SOLVED] To usblp or not to usblp

I had a 64 bit system working flawlessly, with a Brother HL-1430 B/W printer installed. To make the printer work, I had to blacklist usblp module.

Now I'm trying to install a Canon Pixma MP190 printer, and I'd like to have both printers working. The problem is the Canon printer doesn't get detected unless usblp module is running. Is there a way to solve this and get both printers working?

I have tried blacklisting usblp module, and modprobing it when I want to use the Canon printer, but that doesn't work unless I reboot and remove/add the printer again. Also it looks like the Brother printer stops working until I blacklist the module again and remove/add again the printer...

Have a look if the two ways (1. AUR package; 2. Udev rule) mentioned in this thread can help you: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=138449

Re: [SOLVED] To usblp or not to usblp

Replaced cups with cups-usblp from AUR, then removed the blacklist to usblp, and now it works perfect! I have configured both printers and they are working properly.

Thanks a lot!

I'm guessing why cups-usblp is not the default package instead of cups. It looks like it works a lot better, and removes the need for weird stuff, like blacklisting usblp module.
