X crashes on gnome-session / GDM logout, corrupts ttys (NVIDIA)

Recently I had a problem with the NVIDIA proprietary drivers and X crashing after starting a gnome-session (with xorg-xinit) or when logging out to GDM, corrupting the tty consoles (random flickering white artefacts). It was simply solved by using NVIDIA's automatic configuration utility:

nvidia-xconfig

I was thinking about documenting that in the wiki. Should it be added to the Gnome, GDM, or the NVIDIA page? Is it even worth mentioning, considering the NVIDIA page already suggests running nvidia-xconfig as a general solution to assorted problems?

PS: I'm not sure whether this should be posted under Desktop Environments or Wiki Discussion. Apologies in advance for the possible miscategorisation.
