[SOLVED] Need Help for Gmail Setting on thunderbird

I get this trouble when sending email from thunderbird 12.0.1
for IMAP of Gmail Account.

Point 1. I Have activate IMAP on my gmail setting
point 2. I have setting my Thunderbird
Server Name : smtp.googlemail.com
port : 465
Connection security : SSL/TLS

and then i get this message box:
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.googlemail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact the server administrator.

poit 3. I have check my user groups mail are on it.

so what I need to do next...

I know nothing about thunderbird apart from the fact that we have version 15.0.1 in the repos.
Why are you using version 12?

Edit: Have you read https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en … an-account ?

Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587

That's what I'm using for mailx BTW.

Dear Karol & Friends,

I Have upgrade my thunderbird to 15.0.1
but same problem...

if I'm using imap.gmail.com or smtp.gmail.com I cannot send or receive any mail.

This one is not that hard to find..
Anyway servername is imap.googlemail.com on port 993

I think I'm missing something. What exactly are you trying to do?
I've just installed thunderbird and it asked me for my e-mail address and password - I didn't have to configure anything, I got my e-mail automatically.
The setup took about 5 seconds.

Yes, these settings, along with 'smtp.googlemail.com' have been set automatically for me.

IMAP has nothing to do with it when you are sending mail. You are connecting directly to the MTA here, which is why reading your inbox and sending email need to be set up separately.

Here's what I have for Gmail:

Server Name: smtp.googlemail.com
Port: 465
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Normal password
Username: <your account>@gmail.com

It should prompt you for your password when sending the first email. You can also try configuring it with STARTTLS on port 25 or port 587

He's asking for help sending mail, which has nothing to do with IMAP. IMAP is simply a protocol for retrieving email.

Try removing and adding your account again and let thunderbird configure itself. When it asks choose imap and you are done.

I have remove old account and and add new account.
and here is the setting...

incoming server settings
imap.googlemail.com
port 993
SSL/TLS
Normal password

outgoing server settings
smtp.gmail.com
port 587
STARTTLS
Normal password....
