Thunderbird: open link in Firefox, error FF is already running

Hi,

I have this issue for a long time, usually I can live with it, but from time to time I get frustrated and try to resolve the problem.
My issue: I have 2 Thinderbird profiles and 2 Firefox profiles, too. When I click on a link in an email (Firefox launched earlier) I get the following message:

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

Firefox is launched as:

firefox -P default

Firefox is the default browser as per Firefox.
I use Openbox.
I searched the net, tried everything, including the solutions that can be find in Mozilla Knowledgebase, but no avail.

Is there any solution? I need firefox, because some website don't allow Opera or Chromium, just IE and FF.

I love the way Firefox handles profiles but I hate the way they never seem to work correctly. sad

Does the Thunderbird command work outside of Thunderbird?

firefox -P default http://www.haiku-os.org

Does it work with the new tab option?

firefox -P default -new-tab

Thanks for the reply.
firefox -P default http://www.haiku-os.org works, however firefox -P default  -new-tab opens a new instance of FF.

Both of them cause an error:

GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed

Is FFx already open using the other profile? I'm not sure what the behaviour is supposed to be in that case. hmm

No, only default profile in use.

Re: Thunderbird: open link in Firefox, error FF is already running

Does it work if you don't specify the profile then? I know this won't help if you want to open the other one.
All my external apps that load stuff into firefox use -new-tab and it loads in the main window, so the two issues may be related. If you can find reasons why -new-tab opens a new window, it might resolve the issue.

Nope. I tried to write a script and run it instead if default Firefox, but nothing. I hoped someone will have a good idea. smile
I'll play with it a little more or just file a bug report at mozilla wink
Thanks for your help.

Okay, good luck. Let us know if you find anything.
