Loud pop on startup (also resume)

A few days ago I was messing around with PulseAudio for some reason...Skype probably. Since PulseAudio didn't solve that problem, I removed it. Now, when I start up my laptop and boot sequence completes, right before KDM there is a loud pop coming from the speakers.

Besides that, KDE sometimes complains about audio hardware missing or not functioning (ALC668 Analog). These are the relevant packages I believe:

pacman -Q | grep pulse
libpulse 4.0-2
pacman -Q | grep alsa
alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1
alsa-plugins 1.0.27-2
alsa-utils 1.0.27.2-1
lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.27.2-1
lib32-alsa-plugins 1.0.27-1
[neky@lapstarr ~]$ lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)

I'm running x64, multilib enabled.

Re: Loud pop on startup (also resume)

Thank you for your answer, but it doesn't help. That's the first thing I tried, also searched the forums, re-installed ALSA, re-installed KDE with new config files...with no luck.

Re: Loud pop on startup (also resume)

I am sorry for bumping, but several updates later the problem persists. As I said, it can be heard right before KDM starts, if that is any help.

Re: Loud pop on startup (also resume)

I used to get this on my Macbook, but was never able to figure out what was causing this.  Looking around the interwebs, I also found that I was certainly not alone in this experience either.

I wonder if this still occurs if the volume it muted on boot and/or resume?  I think it might be good to determine if it is low level, or something within userspace that is causing this.
