[SOLVED] Segfaults with Skype through AUR

This is what the terminal spits out when running skype:

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

So I've checked around through the forums and the comments on the AUR page, and I still can not seem to figure it out. I am on the latest glibc which is said to have fixed the problem, but it looks like the problem is still persisting. This is my second fresh install of Arch ( I reinstalled in case I messed up) but I don't think I messed up. I made sure to enable the multilib repository before installing. If you need more information just let me know what to post!

Re: [SOLVED] Segfaults with Skype through AUR

Does this happen when you start skype or while it is running? Is your system x86_64?

Skype barely works on my system, mainly problems with sound, I usually have to restart it to get it working for any call.

Re: [SOLVED] Segfaults with Skype through AUR

What version of skype are you using (please provide an AUR link)?
I'm using skype from the multilib repository and it's working fine.

When I run skype at all. Running it in the terminal just gives the Core dumped message. And yes, my system is x86_64.

The one I always use from the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/skype2/

Re: [SOLVED] Segfaults with Skype through AUR

1. That Skype is a different version than the one from the multilib repo. Unless you have a specific need for v2, you should consider switching to the one in the repos.

2. The AUR comments about glibc are a bit old. There could be another regression.

I feel like the one in the aur was the one I always used, but it makes sense to use the one from the multilib repo. I will uninstall it and try the multilib version and report back.

Re: [SOLVED] Segfaults with Skype through AUR

Nevermind, the one in the multilib repo works perfectly fine. I don't know why I installed the version from the AUR in the first place. Sorry for all of the inconvience! Thread closed. smile
