Re: console screen resolution

Hi, welcome to Arch. You could for instance install fbset [extra] and run fbset -i as root.

Re: console screen resolution

Hello qinohe, thank you. It works for me.
Does the console use fb by default?
Is it the same fb in grub menu at the start up?

Re: console screen resolution

Your welcome, yes, as far as I know, yes console uses framebuffer.
Yes, grub is a console program, so yes, it's the same, unless you specified something different.

Re: console screen resolution

Maybe I am a little blond, but, you 'use console with fb only', do you mean you only use console and no DE or WM?

BTW I don't know that 'famous' controller, but it must be good then, good luck with it.;)

Re: console screen resolution

qinohe, yes. I use console only for the moment with fb tools like fim for example.
No WM neither DE.
I am thinking about Openbox WM, decision is difficult smile joke.

I had got A PROBLEM with Intel Atom D2xxx/N2xxx controller smile.
I tried to find some GNU/Linux distribution which have buildin driver but there is no one. Even if computer was sold with Ubuntu inside. I dropped it out as soon as saw that there is no 3D acceleration for DE.
So I asked for support from manufacturer (ASUS) and the answer was "where have you looked when you bought the hardware". Luckily it exist less and more smile, so I enjoy to learn CLI, bash, vim and emacs.
Once more thanks for the answers.

Re: console screen resolution

Yes, I get it now, then you  have probably also found fbterm, I have tried it, but since I use i3, never felt the need to use it on a daily basis, maybe I should give it a go once more.
The problem concerning your video, I can't be of real help, I really have no knowledge about the Intel Atom D2xxx/N2xxx controller, or Atom at all.
Maybe someone who has such machine can help you with that:)

PS to learn the CLI , ArchLinux is a very good choice!

Re: console screen resolution

You know after some time of using GNU/Linux, I am pretty happy go through the CLI. It is different, it is real and it works.

For fbterm I think I will try it before Openbox smile. I guess thare are things to try out with it's congigurations.
Actually I have got a problem there too. The "command prompt line" does not retourn to the top of the screen after the clear command.
It happens only with Intel Atom D2xxx/N2xxx at 1366x768 resolution.

No, it's the "u r fscked" GMA3600/3650 aka CedarView - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_GMA3600. Equally infamous, just a bit newer - Poulsbo is GMA500 and contains a PowerVR SGX 535 GPU, CedarView contains a PowerVR SGX 545 GPU.

Did you follow the link?  It is the product code name for a problematic video system.

Re: console screen resolution

I do follow the link and I do read the wiki. It is possible that I'm not receptive smile but it did not work for me.
I tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_GMA3600. "This means, unleass you run a really outdated system this driver is useless for Arch-Linux. ".
And now I am trying to complile a Linux kernel. "Enabling Hardware Accelerated Video Decode on Intel® Atom™ Processor D2000 and N2000 Series under Fedora 16"
I am not sure of me and more of "Enabling Hardware Accelerated" with Fedora smile.

Re: console screen resolution

For setfont, I just realize that there is not enough console fonts for differnt screen resolutions.
An exmaple Lat2-Terminus20x10 etc.
