Exactly what is the problem with this one package xapian-core? Can I skip it and if I can how do I skip it?

Please update your system before installing new software and post the commands you're using, not jsut the output.
Arch has xapian-core 1:1.2.18-1 in the repos, not 1:1.2.17-2.

Thank you for your quick reply . I had updated my repos only a day before, and I didn't think it was necessary before installing KDE.
Thanks again.

Arch moves fast :-)
I didn't think it was necessary before installing KDE.
Why not? KDE has many packages, chances are some of them have been just updated.
If everything is working now, please remember to mark the thread as solved https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130309
