last update: laptop dies when going to sleep with external monitors

I've been sloppy with updating lately, so I don't know which package/version has brought about the change.

SETUP:
HP EliteBook Folio 1040 in docking station, 2 monitors connected using the docking station's display ports.

PREVIOUSLY:
Both monitors where configurable as a single screen. (not ideal, but worked)

NOW:
Both monitors are configurable the way it's supposed to be (hooray). BUT: when I suspend the laptop while using the external monitors, the system just _freezes_ upon wakeup. When I switch the monitors to --off before suspending using xrandr, the laptop doesn't freeze after wakeup, but it requires disconnecting from and reconnecting to the docking station to use the exernal monitors again (xrandr shows them, but with wrong maximal resolution, and they can't be activated until they've been reconnected).

I'm curious if anybody knows

- what is responsible for the change
- what I could do about it

As soon as I know where to turn to, I'll probably have to file a bug report there.

EDIT:
This is the last line in `journalctl -x -b -1`:

kernel: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 000000000000004c

Where should I report this BUG?
