The title says it, I'm looking for your recommendations on a remote desktop program, specifically one that will allow me to use Linux as the client and windows 8 as the server.
I've had no trouble finding tools that will allow windows to act as a client and linux as the server, but I need it the other way around.
What I'm hoping to find:
1. A remote desktop program that allows me to view (full gui) and manipulate my windows 8 computer from my Arch Linux Machine (I have no preference on whether the client is GUI or CLI driven, I'm comfortable figuring out both.)
2. A program that allows copy/paste between client and server
3. Clear Picture (not jittery, or blurred)
4. Smooth (as little lag as possible)
Background:
The laptop I use for school runs on windows 8 (I primarily use onenote and the rest of the office suite), but my primary desktop computer is an Arch Linux system. I would like the ability to work from within Arch to review/create my work and create a backup library for my research notes. Therefore in my mind an RDP seemed like the best/simplest solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

I use rdesktop for this purpose. Install cygwin on the windows box and make use of ssh tunneling for security.
CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

Have you used this on a windows 8 system? I only ask because the Rdesktop homepage doesn't list 8 as being supported.
After doing a little research:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7443 … -windows-8
It seems like linux to windows 8 may not yet be supported?

No, only tested with version 7. I will not update my parent's machine to version 8 due to the high crap factor of that release.

To each their own. Personally I'm not a fan of any windows systems. but they pretty much have a monopoly level of saturation in most fortune 500 companies so it's a requirement to learn and deal with them for work.
In any case I've found a solution in using Teamviewer. It's a bit bulky but it's got everything I need. Thanks anyway.

Bingo!
I don't know that it will be any better, but there is freerdp as well. It is apparently a fork of rdesktop that does a better job at keeping up with the changes in the RDP protocol.

From that stackoverflow link:
For those stumbling onto this question:
Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 support RDPv8: (Wikipedia)
Remmina (remmina@sourceforge), implementing FreeRDP (FreeRDP), is able to connect to Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 -- I'm currently using Remmina to successfully connect to a WS2012 machine.
Help me to improve ssh-rdp !
Retroarch User? Try my koko-aio shader !

Thanks to both of you for that recommendation, I'll look into it.
