Could not satisfy dependencies when "pacman -S pacman"

$ sudo pacman -Sys pacman

gives the following related information:

core is up to date
core/pacman 4.2.0-6 (base base-devel) [installed: 4.1.2-6]
    A library-based package manager with dependency support

But when I try to update pacman,

$ sudo pacman -S pacman

I get the following error:

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: package-query: requires pacman<4.2

I want to update pacman separately because I am provisioning a Vagrant basebox predating 4.2, and a full system upgrade will be interrupted due to the need of pacman-db-upgrade.

Re: Could not satisfy dependencies when "pacman -S pacman"

Please search before posting.  This has been covered *many* times on the forums.  You must manage aur packages yourself, pacman will not do that for you.  The solution here is simple: remove or update package-query.

Mod note: If this were just a package-query issue this would be directed to the dustbin as that topic has been covered ad naseum already.  But I'll move this to the newbie corner for now incase the other part of the question needs further input.
