[SOLVED] Time out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net

Greetings, first and foremost thank you to everyone that is part of this community and has helped one another and contributed.

At the present moment arch has been installed on my system for a few months (KDE, plasma 5) Unfortunately, yesterday I believe I did a pacman -Syu and everything went fine but this morning when I woke up I had difficulty booting. When the computer passes the grub boot loader and starts to load I am presented with this sequence of events:

A start job is running for sys-subsystem-net-devices-enps20u1u1.device.
TIME - Timed out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net-devices-enps20u1u1.device
DEPEND - Dependency failed for dhcpcd on enps20u1u1
OK - Reached target Multi-User System
OK - Reached target Graphical Interface
OK - Reached target Network

Below is further information thanks to the help from the people in the IRC channel. I should also mention the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro does not have an ethernet so I was using a USB ethernet adapter.

Hello, I have tried systemctl disable/enable dhcpd@IFACE.service on both wireless and ethernet in the past and nothing occurred. I tried again and below...

 starting version 219
/dev/sda2: clean X files Y blocks

This is what I am presented after the grub bootloader and then a blinking cursor, not sure what to make of it.

Can you switch to a TTY?

What is your hardware?

Re: [SOLVED] Time out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net

That was an interesting read smile

Are you trying to use your wired, or your wireless network?  Who is Kristin ? wink

I notice that networkmanager is trying to invoke dhclient and that dhcpcd is also trying to run.  They will conflict.
I see that networkmanager is disabled.  Why is it running? [That is an important question and it is not rhetorical]
I see that the dhcpcd servicd is enabled.  It will conflict with networkmanager, which starts dhcpcd (or dhclient) itself when it needs it.

Try disabling the dhcpcd services and see what happens.  If nothing happens and the network does not work, see if networkmanager is running.  If there are no network managers (networkmanager, netctl, od dhcpd.service), try brining it it by hand (assuming wired network) by running dhcpcd as root.

ewaller, I'm glad you liked it. If you are ever in the Boston area I'll show you TemptationsCafe wink lol,

Well on my laptop I only have wireless but for some reason the error occurs because of my usb ethernet. Quite honestly I just want it to boot to the desktop environment as normal before right now I can't.

I do have access to TTY. I will disable the networkmanager and dhcpcd services then I will report back. Thanks to both of you so far for your help/

Disabled networkmanager, and dhcpcd services still same result cursor just happily blinking away. When my laptop is connected with ethernet I get a ping and works, but still doesn't boot up into desktop environment.

I do get an ethernet connection when I plug in my adapter. Correct, my X environment doesn't start.

Re: [SOLVED] Time out waiting for device sys-subsystem-net

Okay, perhaps you should consider editing your first post and change the thread title to something about the window manager and X not starting.

Tell us about your environment.  Graphic chip set. What window manager you use (Openbox, i3, awesome, KDE, Gnome, ....)  What display manager you use (kdm, gdm, slim, ....)
If you know how to find your Xorg logs, share them.  If you cannot find them, we can help once you tell us how you are starting X.
