Hey, so I noticed here that it's a good idea to update the microcode for the processor as mentioned in that wiki article. I've noticed however that every time I start up my computer I get this from the output of
dmesg | grep microcode
:
[ 0.000000] microcode: CPU0 microcode updated early to revision 0x1b, date = 2014-05-29
[ 0.080992] microcode: CPU1 microcode updated early to revision 0x1b, date = 2014-05-29

This seems to indicate that the microcode is being updated every time I boot up the computer into Arch Linux. Shouldn't it only update once until a new update comes out?
My system is Arch Linux x64 running stock kernel with the XFCE desktop environment.
Thanks in advance.

No, that's how it works. If you remove the microcode, you'll use the out-of-the-box instructions.

CPU's don't have any non-volatile storage so the microcode update is lost every time you power down your machine.

Ok, good to know. I guess I was getting worried for no reason then.
