rEFInd boot delay on macbook pro (2015)

Hi,

I am dual booting Arch and osx on a 2015 macbook pro. I am using rEFInd to help boot the particular OS.

I started getting really long delays of about 30 seconds or so before the rEFInd interface loads and then any key press after that takes about 20 seconds to actually process. This happens all the way to the display manager (MDM) where I have to wait 20 seconds after it appears on the screen to actually type my username/password in. After that no delays.

There have been other posts about delays and I thought I had it sorted by following the advice (on this page) to execute:

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=440 count=1

This seemed to get rid of the problem. I can constantly reboot Arch with no delays or issues. But after I've used osx the problem returns.

I don't see this as an Arch issue but I wondered if anyone has encountered this before or have any ideas why it might be happening?

Cheers,

Chris

Did you find a solution to this, I have the same problem.
Rebooting from Linux works fine, but I get long delays and unresponsive keyboard rebooting from OS X or cold.

p.s. does your sd card reader work?

I also have this problem, but I use systemd-boot and do not have rEFInd. Has anyone found what might be causing it, or a possible solution?

So not a problem with refind - how interesting.
Looks like there are some reports of it happening to people just using OsX as well.
I wonder if completely nuking the SSD and re-installing everything from scratch would fix it?

This would be quite a hassle so I don't think worth it at the moment for me....

I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but if anyone else can and report back then resetting the PRAM might solve the problem: http://thenextweb.com/lifehacks/2010/12 … -your-mac/
