Default loader.conf

Hi All,

I've just completed my first successful Arch install - only the base system so far.

During installation, the default (ie before I edit) contents of /boot/loader/loader.conf are :

#timeout 3
default 560ffbf86c0448edaa02bcc5c1e30c91-*

Then I changed it as suggested to the default :

default arch
timeout 4
editor 0

and everything worked after that.

My question - what is the significance of that default value? What does it mean?
I'm just trying to understand the installation process.

Thanks.

Re: Default loader.conf

The hexadecimal value for default should correspond to a machine-id key for an OS entry (usually further down in the file). It specifies which entry is chosen by default.

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … ot_entries.
