Nouveau not allowing shutdown after fresh install

I have just installed Arch Linux on a new HP Zbook G3 (with a NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 4GB GDDR5). The install went very smoothly except for one major issue: the system does not shutdown (this happened both with the install environment and after install, when Arch booted from the disk).

After the "reboot" or "poweroff" commands, all the systemd tasks finish with an OK, except that a problem with Nouveau doesn't allow the computer to shutdown (and the fan also doesn't stop rotating very fast). Here are the last few lines where the computer (not the fan) stops:

    .....
[   OK   ]  Stopped Create Static Device Modes in /dev.
[   OK   ]  Reached target shutdown.
[   1262.856300  ] noveau 0000:01:00.0: pci: failed to adjust lnkctl speed

Update: When I only use the descrete graphics card (setup in BIOS), the problem is fixed. By default it was set to automatically switch between the embedded and descrete. I will be trying to follow the https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus article.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
