Is it ok if I save a backup of 'evdev' in "/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules"

Like if I place a file named "evdev.Backup" inside "/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules" will this mess up anything with the XKB configuration?

I mean I know I can do this with ".conf" files. Like for example inside "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d" I can safely have files ending with ".Backup" which wouldn't affect the configuration of Xorg.

No, but in general you can also "chmod 000" files - should prevent any sane process from reading them.
Another stashing approach is to hide it: "file.txt" -> ".file.txt.bak"
