Unable to install nvidia drivers [Solved]

Hello, I cannot seem to get the proprietary nvidia drivers to work with my GTX 960 M. I have absolutely no clue what I did wrong... So I just describe what I did. I installed nvidia and nvidia-libgl (which uninstalled mesa-libgl), I ran nvidia-xconfig, I manually added the PCI Bus ID of the graphics card to the device section of xorg.conf, I ran mkinitcpio -p linux but it doesn't work. It just doesn't start the X session at boot (I can still change to other terminals though) Does anyone know what I can try to make it work?
xorg.conf

Re: Unable to install nvidia drivers [Solved]

Hello boxhead34 welcome to the arch forums

[ 7.638] (II) xfree86: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card1)
[ 7.638] (II) xfree86: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0)

You have Hybrid_graphics system.
You need to pick either optimus or bumblebee from the wiki page linked above and follow the steps for one of those options.
As you experienced already nvidia-xconfig does not generate configurations that are compatible with hybrid systems.

Re: Unable to install nvidia drivers [Solved]

Welcome to the forums.

Don't run nvidia-xconfig, delete the config it generated, then read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus if there are any problems with the instructions there, post what you did so far and any relevant error output.

Edit: Meh too slow

Re: Unable to install nvidia drivers [Solved]

Yeah, thank you both, now everything works fine smile
Maybe consider adding that to the nvidia wiki page? I am really not that unexperienced, but I had no clue that I had to install bumblebee to make nvidia work. I think when someone searches how to install nvidia drivers on Arch, he usually thinks it is enough to go through only the nvidia wiki page and not search for switchable graphics options. Of course, the decision is up to others, I am just saying that it was very confusing for me and I think I am not the only one. smile
Only adding a short note for that would be sufficient, something like "if you use switchable graphics, you have to use one of those options: ...".

NVIDIA
The first sentence.

This article covers the proprietary NVIDIA graphics card driver. For the open-source driver, see Nouveau. If you have a laptop with hybrid Intel/NVIDIA graphics, see NVIDIA Optimus instead.

You could of course discuss a change on the wiki articles talk page.
