Some app has broken GUI on gnome3

Hi, I list some basic info below first.

SW version:

[magodo@t460p build]$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.8.7-1-ARCH (builduser@tobias) (gcc version 6.2.1 20160830 (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 10 17:22:48 CET 2016

HW: Thinkpad T460p with resolution of 2560*1440

I'm running gnome3 DE. I find some applications' GUI looks like below:

?id=28926f3
?id=81d58c0

Some boxes are overlapped, some could only partially be seen.

Even the gnome-screenshot app has issue by itself, there is no checkbox for Take Screenshot options.

Is there anyone has any good idea about how this?

Re: Some app has broken GUI on gnome3

hey there,

i had issues when i started with Arch and my graphics/desktop environment. currently i'm running xfce4, but used gnome in the past. it might not be the DE causing your issues. i cannot see the images (or links) that you have in your post, so i don't understand exactly what you are seeing.

in my case it was not having the proper graphics driver. the Nouveau driver (open-source) had the basics, resolution, basic screen, settings and functionality.  after install i noticed that there was minor movement clipping and certain things that were supposed to shade when selected just glitched out. after proper graphics driver was installed, all issues were resolved.

i could be completely wrong, as i am a Arch noob as well, but i would make sure you have your proper graphics driver installed before proceeding.

also this may be better posted in the "Applications & Desktop Environments" section of the forums, but i could be wrong in that aspect as well.

good luck, hopefully your issue gets a resolve.

software: 4.8.13-1-ARCH, x64_64, nvidia-304xx driver, xfce4
hardware: NVIDIA GK107 [GeForce GT 640], 256GB SSD HDD, 16GB RAM, Ralink RT2800 802.11n wireless card, AMD FX8150

Are you running gnome on wayland or xorg?  Try xorg and see if that fixes your issue.

Hi goat! I don't know why the pictures are not shown(size limit?) but you can open them in from URL directly to see what I have.
Since I'm using laptop, there are two graphical cards, Intel HD using driver i915 and Nvidia using driver nvidia, the switch functionality is also setup properly using bumblebee, i.e. I can run some graphical specific app using `optirun`.

The pictures are not showing because you used img tags but didn't give the uri to an image, but rather to a script that generates a page including your image.  If you had actually used the uri of the image, they'd be removed as too large.  If you had used url tags, others could follow the link to the page that displays your image.
