Dear people.
Today I decided, as I usually do, to update my systems packages.
It is to my disbelieve that pacman wants me to update 145 packages.
I did my previous update the day before or the day before that and hat never even remotely this many packages that want an update.
Many lib... and gnome... are among the packages to be updated but most of them tell me very little.
What can this be?
Thank you in advance and good regards.

ABI changes in common dependencies require a rebuild of all packages that rely on them (e.g. opengl openssl was just updated requiring the rebuild of many packages). This is likely a fair portion of your updates - you can spot these in any packages where there is only a pkgrel increment but no change in pkgver.
Also with the big DEs large numbers of updates do tend to be released together.
But from what you've said so far, there is no problem and no information with which to give a direct answer. If you want to know about any specific packages, tell us which ones you want to know about.
Please use the "edit" button on your post and revise your title to something that actually represents your question/concern.
EDIT: oops, typo - I meant openssl but somehow typed opengl.

My guess is openssl.

Yes that's what I *thought* I wrote.

Arch packages are built in Asian factories but distributed from servers in Canada. Usually there are several ships leaving the different Asian ports near each factory every day so the packages arrive in a steady trickle. However, due to the growing tensions near the Korean peninsula, recent shipments from the openssl and Gnome package factories have been disrupted. A ship finally got through the other day with all of the packages from the previously cancelled shipments. That's why there were so many at once. Apparently there were enough packages to fill 3 containers.
The Python packages are even worse. They're all made in a tiny factory in Antarctica. They take about 10 years to produce a new version of Python, but when they do, BAM!, hundreds of packages all at once.
