[?] Cannot see my user in GDM login screen

Hi,

Since when I have changed my UID to 501, I cannot see anymore my user in the GDM login screen.
I've already tried the following solution but they didn't work:

  • Updated /etc/pam.d/gdm-password adding this line

    auth     sufficient      pam_succeed_if.so uid >= 500 quiet
  • Updated the file /etc/login.defs changing these lines:

    UID_MIN                   500
    # System accounts
    SYS_UID_MIN               100
    SYS_UID_MAX               499

Could you help me?

As far as I know, GDM has a hard-coded value of 1000 as the minimum user ID. At least that was the case a few years back.

Re: [?] Cannot see my user in GDM login screen

The strange thing that I've noticed is that if I start GDM using

sudo systemctl restart gdm.service

Everything works correctly, so I can see my user (and also autologin is working).
Than if I made a log-out or reboot the system GDM doesn't show anymore my user.
