Hello Guys,
I have a quite irritating problem. I installed EasyTag and now I have problem that everytime when I'm trying to open some directory from menu (GNOME, directories dropdown list on top) like Home, Documents etc. or I'm trying to open pendrive from system message about new devices
- EasyTAG opens.
I checked options of EasyTag and I don't see anywhere option like "Start iritating user with opening everytime and everywhere" or something similar what could be responsible for this kind of behaviour.
I also checked file ~/.config/mimeapps.list and I don't see anything connected with EasyTag. You can find attached file. I checked default programs in settings as well but there is nothing about EasyTag.
If you have some ideas where I can turn this options off, let me know.

Just a guess but I suppose that at some point in time you have told gnome to open directories with easytag so it is doing what you told it too.

There are a few more places and utilities to check other than ~/.config/mimeapps.list read through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … plications

Believe me, I'm not so crazy It have to be something what installation script changes

Sure, I will check and let you know about results

If you never defined a default application, then it can change each time you install a new package with a desktop file. update-desktop-database writes all possible applications for a mime type in some arcane order to /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.
Once you define a default application for inode/directory it won't randomly change again until you explicitly set a new one.

I wasn't trying to imply you are it's just that you might have associated it with easytag when doing something with easytag without realising the implications, everyone has those autopilot moments . That said what progandy mentions is also a possibility and I suspect is what is causing the problems.

If I remeber correctly ... "the winner is" MimeType field in /usr/share/applications/easytag.desktop. Do as follows - as regular user:
mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications
cp -v /usr/share/applications/easytag.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
Correct the file in the fastest way (copy from here):
sed -i 's:inode/directory;::' ~/.local/share/applications/easytag.desktop
Set the proper program - file manager as default program for inode/directory mime category (as wiki says).

@Fixxer: You should not have to copy the desktop file and remove the mime type. If you remove the inode/directory entry from EasyTag, then you will hide it from the "Open With" menu. Simply setting the default should do.

OK Tell me what is the purpose to open by EasyTAG some/these/that place (defined by inode/directory), directory, path by this program that was not written to be file manager? EasyTAG should open some multimedia files to edit their metadata. Nevermind ...

You can open a directory full of taggable audio files. That's the purpose of it.

Yes, you're right. I went ahead ... ;]

The aur package "easytag-git" does not have this problem.

You really haven't read the thread if that is your conclusion. This isn't rocket science people the behaviour and why it happens is pretty well defined.
And technically easytag-git does have this "problem", it sets up the same .desktop file.
However the original issue is solved, there are ample resources pointed out that don't rely on weird hacks or breaking expected functionality.
Closing.
