I think I may have broken my xfce4 DE. I now can't set a wallpaper on my XFCE4 desktop. By whatever means. I used to have a working, no-problem wallpaper manager (via variety), but that stopped working. I uninstalled variety, tried feh, wallpaperdownloader, etc. I even tried putting up a wallpaper with the xfce-settings manager. Nope.
I might have other problems. For instance, I can no longer get a menu when I right-click on my desktop.
I suspect this all came about after I installed a tool to manage my desktop styles, etc. But I cannot remember any more what that particular tool was.
I am not particularly keen on restoring from backups. There's a chance I might buy more trouble if I were to do that.
Any suggestions?
Thx

Roken, thx for your reply. I had a look at the link you gave me. I ran the xfdesktop in debug mode, as suggested. And that worked -- in a fashion. Or rather temporarily. I was getting wallpapers from variety during the session. But not after shutting down and restarting my desktop. This is not the new normal, is it? Do I need to run xfdesktop in debug mode every time I want xfce4 wallpapers.

Downgrade xfdesktop to 4.12.4-2. xfdesktop 4.13 exhibits this problem for a lot of people, and until it's fixed upstream, pinning the version seems to be the best solution.

Hi, Roxen,
I think you're right. The latest xfdesktop is, or was, broke -- suspiciously so. I think they've manage to fix the problem somehow, though. The wallpapers are now fully functional. My xfdesktop is 4.13.3-2.
Thx
