annoying speaker sound during boot process

Hey!

I installed arch on my laptop (thinkpad E590) over the weekend. Following the arch wiki everything went quite well (of course not flawless, but the wiki helped a lot). Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to solve the following problem:
My speakers make a strange sound during the boot process (while the "Lenovo" image is on the screen, each time in a different frequency). Shortly before the login screen shows up, I hear a short pop. I can't find any error in the journalctl and dmesg shows me the following errors (which were already there before the sound problem):

[ 1.426037] dpc 0000:00:1c.0:pcie008: DPC error containment capabilities: Int Msg #0, RPExt+ PoisonedTLP+ SwTrigger+ RP PIO Log 4, DL_ActiveErr+

[ 2.776520] iTCO_wdt: probe of iTCO_wdt failed with error -16
[ 2.818660] platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2

I installed ALSA, pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa, but didn't configure them yet (just unmuted the master with amixer). I already tried to disable the system beeps as mentioned in the arch wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PC_speaker), but without success. I'm not sure how I should further investigate this issue, as all my services start correctly (checked with systemctl) and both, dmesg and journalctl, don't show any other except the messages above.

Executing aplay -l gives me the following output:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

Any help is appreciated!

Re: annoying speaker sound during boot process

Hi!

Are you sure that this beep is from arch or could it be a system-beep? Then you have to look up in your motherboards manual what this means exactly.

To ensure that is not arch beeping, you can disable the pcspkr-module like explained here: Disable PC Speaker globally

Re: annoying speaker sound during boot process

The reason for the problem is pulseaudio. After removing pulseaudio, the sound issue is gone. Unfortunately, I still have no idea why and how I can use pulseaudio without the sound issue.

I tried to disable the pcspkr module as mentioned in the wiki but without success.

Like mentioned in my previous post, it seems like the sound issue is linked to pulseaudio. Besides that, the sound changes every time I boot the system and it's definitely no standard beep sound, it's very distorted.

Re: annoying speaker sound during boot process

Likely the card kicking out of power saving when it is accessed, is your card unmuted when checking after the boot? Does the same pop show up when you attempt playback (without pulse from some ALSA client)? What's your output for

amixer -c0
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
systool -vm snd_hda_intel
#If you want to check/fix this for pulse add
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks

Yes, the card is unmuted.

V1del wrote:

No. Listening to music, watching videos etc. works fine without any pop or distortion.
