I just installed vmware-server from AUR. After running vmware (as user or root) and choosing to connect to local host, vmware locks up w/ 100% cpu usage.
I am running kernel26-beyond-2.6.20.
Here's the output when running from console:
vmware
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)

That error is not relevant to your problem - I get that too, but it still works as well as I would expect it to work.
If it's only vmware that locks up, as you say, check your logs for any useful info at that time.

[strike]which logs should I check? /var/log/vmware is empty.[/strike]
