Firefox constantly segfaults

Firefox segfaults constantly! When there's an update of some sort and Firefox tries to open its own homepage, it segfaults. When I'm reading my webmail and I want to write a new mail, which opens in a new window, it segfaults. I don't use it for much else, but I'm pretty sure that when I'd try to use to google "segfault", it would segfault.

/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  4851 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

is what I get. I upgraded from 2.0.0.4 to 2.0.0.5 and the problem persists. I can't remember when the problem started: I only use Firefox for sites Opera can't handle.

So what are we going to do about it?

Re: Firefox constantly segfaults

The bad part is firefox hasn't segfaulted on me in a long time, but it used to do this to me on older versions of firefox...  This kinda thing is hard to reproduce.

Without rebuilding firefox with debug messages, and getting the trace of firefox when it crashes, it's going to be hard to do anything at all about this.  It's not archlinux's fault that mozilla ships a faulty product.  This is something that needs to be brought up on their bugtracker ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ ) with the proper info.

Of course, Mozilla says they'll fix it in "10 Fucking Days" http://ha.ckers.org/blog/20070803/mozil … king-days/ , so maybe you are in luck.

I had the same problem. Turns out the memory was bad. (memtest86 may not pick it up - it didn't for me).

Re: Firefox constantly segfaults

Had the same problem when firefox had to draw a new windows (save a bookmark, go to it's preferences tab, etc). My problem was caused by an XFCE theme that i used. I switched back to a default Xfce theme and the problem went away.

Check your themes and switch between them... you might fix it that way wink
