Preload wont upgrade because of existing preload files...

preload: /var/lib/preload/preload.state exists in filesystem
preload: /var/log/preload.log exists in filesystem

I'm guessing I should just delete those files, but why can't the updated preload just use those files?

Delete /var/lib/preload/preload.state and /var/log/preload.log.  Then you should be able to install.
