Xorg freezes on fresh install. Happens on two differen machines!

I tried installing arch on my main box last week and when I did startx, the machine froze completely. Couldn't capslock, couldn't ctrl-alt-del, couldn't ctrl-alt-backspace...
Today I wanted to install arch on a friends box, and the same thing happened again! I tried using vesa or the proper drivers (nvidia for me, sis for him), different versions etc, but it just freezes and everything is lost. It just doesn't work. No errors are being logged.

What is up with the current xorg? Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution?
