Hi,
does anyone know a method to prevent the xfce-panels from overlapping other applications?

Unfortunately there's no option to force the panel to the background and when auto-hiding the panel is still shown as a small bar.

I have set the opacity to 100% and checked the option to autohide the panel. I can't see the panel on my desktop, but I must say that I have a dark wallpaper.

While that works, how do you see the panel when you want to see it?

@sokuban: He can still see the text.

@NeoXP: When the panels autohide they still can pop up when you reach the screen edges. The main problem for me is that the panels are even shown when running wine.

The text...? Oh you mean the tooltips? That would be a very inconvenient panel.

Yes, I have the exact same problem. I have to kill the panel before running fullscreen games in wine. (I rarely do though, I try to run things in a window as much as I can, though mainly because of the panel problem.)

No, not the tooltips. The text for the window names/etc

Window names? I guess you mean the taskbar or something? (I don't use a taskbar.) When I put transparancy to 100%, I don't see anything. No text, no buttons, no widgets; my whole panel goes invisible. (Granted, I don't have any text on my panel normally, but I did try telling my battery monitor to display some text as a test, but that too faded when transparancy was set to 100%.)

When I hover over it with my mouse the panel pops up and the opacity is 0%. The only thing that is in my XFCE panel is the systray. I use tint2 as a taskbar and rightclick on the desktop to bring on the menu. I never work fullscreen and I don't use wine.

Oh, I get it. You checked the "make active panel opaque" box. That definately works.

I wouldn't mark this as solved though, since the OP wants a slightly different behaviour (I would prefer that too).

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention the thing about "make active panel opaque" and you're right that the problem hasn't been solved yet.

Unfortunately I'm not that experienced to solve the problem
