[SOLVED]A quick help on xorg configuration

I need some help configuring my Xorg file. My resolution is fine but the refresh rate is all wrong. Also, my GDM is not at the right resolution. I've never heavily modified a Xorg file. I once used to have the GDM problem but fixed it. It was a long time ago so I forgot pretty much everything.

Here's my hardware setup:

Graphics Card: nVidia 9500GT
Monitor: MAG 796PF2 - 1024x768 @85 Hz

Here's my xorg.conf. This is an output of hwd -xa :

Re: [SOLVED]A quick help on xorg configuration

Try using nvidia-xconfig to make an xorg.conf. If it works, compare differences.

It actually made things worse. The refresh rate and the resolution was all messed up.

Well if you want to make use of the graphics card fully, you will have to use the latest nvidia driver. nvidia-xconfig worked out of the box for me. could you post that file as well.

Sometimes I have noticed that nvidia-xconfig will try to write to an existing xorg.conf file...so it will have settings from the hwd -x as well as ones that nvidia-xconfig sets. Try to delete/rename the existing xorg.conf and then do a nvidia-xconfig. That will give you a brand new file generated only by nvidia.

Re: [SOLVED]A quick help on xorg configuration

No luck there. I deleted the xorg.conf file and ran nvidia-xconfig but it was the same as before. Here's the output:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder62) Tue Jan 6 09:43:54 PST 2009

Re: [SOLVED]A quick help on xorg configuration

nvidia-config didn't work for me either, I had to use "hwd -xa" to get my mouse and keyboard working and then did nvidia-config to get the graphics part and then I kinda merged the two hmm

For my monitor/screen section I have this:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    Option "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "GeForce9800GT"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "All"
    BoardName "All"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "GeForce9800GT"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
    SubSection "Display"
        Viewport 0 0
        Depth 24
    EndSubSection
EndSection

Re: [SOLVED]A quick help on xorg configuration

The NVIDIA X Server Settings did the trick. I don't know how I didn't see it before. I still have some issues so I might be posting a new thread soon again. Thank you again.
