Download KDE4 iconsets

Howdie,

kde4 has this neat function where you can just download stuff off kdelook.org IN the appearance settings dialogs. That does not work with the icon sets however. It's all there, the dialog, the previews the "install" button, and my mousepointer even starts it's little happy dance when I click install.. yet no new set appears, and the button still reads "install"..

Is this just not yet implemented or is something wrong?
BTW, the same thing happend back when I was using gentoo and KDE4.2...

Re: Download KDE4 iconsets

The problem is that there is no standard way of packaging icon themes.. you will find zips, tar.gz and bzip2 archives. Sometimes even build scripts. Lets see, maybe they find a general working solution.

Apart from that most icon themes from kde3 dont work properly in kde4, which means there is only a handful (only 2 complete sets, to be precise) of icon sets for kde4.

You can theoretically use icon sets from gnome-look.org - but those will miss some icons (e.g. in systemsettings) -

Vut kde3 themes did not follow freedesktop.org's sepcs, so dont use them smile

Hmm... so that function in KDE4 is pretty much useless?

Re: Download KDE4 iconsets

I noticed this too when playing with kde4, I still have kde3 installed and over time I had collected favorite icons from various themes for kde3. quite a few I made or altered. I put them all in a theme dir that I named custom. It's not svg, but just full of normal png icons with sizes 16, 22, 32, and 64 pixels. Out of curiosity, I copied that theme from /opt/kde/shar/icons to /usr/shar/icons and it showed up in my kde4 settings and worked just fine.
