netcdf version from future?

For the NetCDF library, the .so files installed on my machine appear to be from version ahead of what pacman thinks is installed.  Is this just a normal but odd looking appearence, or did some non-pacman installation somehow clobber my netcdf with its own 4.0 version?  It might not be a problem at least in the sense that i've not noticed any apps complaining.

user> pacman -Qi netcdf
Name           : netcdf
Version        : 3.6.2-2

Ok, fine.  But what is living in /usr/lib?

user> ls /usr/lib/*netc*
/usr/lib/libnetcdf.a         /usr/lib/libnetcdf_c++.so.4
/usr/lib/libnetcdf.so        /usr/lib/libnetcdf_c++.so.4.0.0
/usr/lib/libnetcdf.so.4      /usr/lib/libnetcdff.a
/usr/lib/libnetcdf.so.4.0.0  /usr/lib/libnetcdff.so
/usr/lib/libnetcdf_c++.a     /usr/lib/libnetcdff.so.4
/usr/lib/libnetcdf_c++.so    /usr/lib/libnetcdff.so.4.0.0

(there is nothing of interest in /usr/local/lib)
