Openbox gtk settings (.gtkrc and .fonts.conf) overriden by gnome

I've been using openbox very happily on my arch installation and made the mistake of installing gnome. sad

With gnome installed, when I launch openbox, the gnome theme settings override my .gtkrc file set with lxappearance.

Similarly, the gnome font settings are overriding my fonts.conf file.

I do not have a

. $GLOBALAUTOSTART

line in my openbox autostart.sh.

I removed gnome, which resolved the gtk theme problem, but something is still overriding my .fonts.conf file.

Is there any way to prevent the gnome desktop settings from overriding my fonts.conf and gtkrc settings?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Openbox gtk settings (.gtkrc and .fonts.conf) overriden by gnome

O.K. I solved my own problem. It turns out that zapping a gnome session with Ctr-Alt-Backspace (which I did because my first attempt to run compiz failed) results in a gconfd process that continues to run. When I logged out of gnome normally, the gconfd process was shut down.

When I killed the gconfd process, everything returned to normal in openbox.
