GNU Screen hardstatus hex colors

The GNU Screen manpage says that for the hardstatus line "Colors are coded either as a hexadecimal number or two letters specifying the desired background and foreground color (in that order)."

Does anyone know how to use hexadecimal colors for the hardstatus?

Re: GNU Screen hardstatus hex colors

I found this: http://osdir.com/ml/gnu.screen.user/200 … 00023.html

There will be no additional colors (like #RRGGBB) available, it is only a different notation of the same terminal colors, because they are limited by the terminal.

Finally, thanks go to Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson, who showed a generation of programmers that complexity is avoidable.

Right..

But with a 256-color terminal and Screen running as screen-256color, do you know if there is a way to let Screen use more (or at least different) colors?
