[SOLVED] Polish letters in awesome/xmonad

Hi
I am having problem with Polish letters being properly displayed in awesome and xmonad. Xmonad (both in dzen and xmobar) does not properly display them when they are in the window's title (i.e Polish websites's names when they contain Polish letters) at all.

In awesome I have the same problem when I log in through SLiM, but the problem disappears when I log in from console through startx. Any ideas what is wrong?

EDIT:

Managed to solve it by changing rc.conf to pl_PL.UTF-8 from pl_PL

 LOCALE="pl_PL.UTF-8"
HARDWARECLOCK="local"
USEDIRECTISA="no"
TIMEZONE="Europe/Warsaw"
KEYMAP="pl2"
CONSOLEFONT="lat2a-16.psfu.gz"

You can try adding to your .xinitrc line:
setxkbmap pl
That's may help.

Unfortunately didn't help. Moreover after changing shell from fish to bash I don't get Polish letters in Awesome at all. No matter if I log in through startx or SLiM
