[SOLVED] Screen Blank During Shutdown/Reboot

I learned from http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64257 that using /etc/inittab to start GDM would allow me to see the shutdown and reboot messages. It had been working fine for a few months, but stopped last week. I see the messages fine on startup, and I even see them if I use halt or reboot from gnome-terminal. But I only get a blank screen if I shutdown from the gnome panel applet. Thanks!

Sherlock,
The wiki can help you out with KMS.  The linked page is specific to Intel graphics.

The conversation seems to be more active at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=601312 , so I'll reply there.
