Opera doesn't have a "Set as default browser" button. Firefox is currently set as default, but I don't like it for a reason, so I installed Opera. By "default browser" I mean that clicking on a URL link in any other application (Skype, for example), Firefox opens.
I remember that in Debian/Ubuntu I could do "update-alternatives --config x-www-browser" and then set the desired browser.
*edit: As a workaround I temporarily created a soft link to Opera as /usr/bin/firefox.

According to specifications every file manager or desktop should respect file ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list
Add this
text/html=opera.desktop
Same action should be causing clicking on Open with option in your file manager and change the default app.

export BROWSER="opera"
add the line to '~/.bashrc' or '~/.zshrc' .
