Hi .
I just tried to launch fusion-icon in order to run compiz-fusion on my laptop, using a GMA 945 integrated shitload (VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)) but it won't. It gets stuck when trying to replace metacity with whatever else.
I'm not using any xorg.conf. It gave me headaches: UXA, XAA, WTF, etc. I assume I didn't manage to find the good combination of options to get it to work.
Any idea?
Thanks \o/

The latest intel driver is pretty wonked. I'm on a 945GM as well and if I run it standalone transparency is WAY screwed up.
And in the midst of such perfection,
I can't help but feel diseased.

Since newest intel driver forces UXA compiz is pretty screwed up. My compiz-standalone starts, but its all glitchy graphics with broken effects like leaving window copies all over the desktop and transparency screwed up so much that you cant see what you type in urxvt.

Here intel driver with UXA works fine, it's X4500MHD. Have you enabled KMS? I have no xorg.conf either~

My compiz didn't start acting funky until the recent update. Now it loads, but it's so slow I can't do anything.
EDIT: or maybe it was the video driver that was just recently updated.

compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format

the problems with transparencies are fixed with direct-rendering + mesa 7.5. ive got similar hardware and managed to get it working with the guide from the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Com … on.22.29_2
the best combination ive found with intel gma 945 are:
kernel 2.6.31-rc2 or newer
mesa 7.5 (or mesa 7.4 with transparency patch applied)
UXA direct rendering

I get that error too with nvidia. Doesn't seem to cause me any problems though.

Same here, I tried the recommendations above, but no change.
Back on metacity right now.
