A couple of questions before I start messing with Dzen2

First off, I'm currently using Openbox as my WM.

Now, with that being said, I had a couple of questions I wanted to ask, and see if anyone knows any answers to them.
First off, are there any cli apps that will list not only the number of desktops, but their names as well? Or maybe there's a file or directory I can read?
Second, is there any way to get a list of the precesses that are/can be controlled via a WM?
Third, does anyone have any idea as to why echo "^ca(1,urxvt)urxvt^ca()" |dzen2 -p would print out 1,urxvt)urxvt)?

What I'm essentially trying to do is configure dzen2 as my panel/statusbar, simmilar to what Awesome has. Any tools or suggestions as to how I could do this easier would be greatly appreciated.

Re: A couple of questions before I start messing with Dzen2

It does not make sense. It works here.

What is the output when if you leave out the dzen2 part?

Have you tried the -dock option?

To get dzen2 to list the workspaces that are clickable you'll need to configure openbox so you can change workspaces with a keycombo and then utilize xdotool.

Something akin to this:

echo "^ca(1,xdotool key alt+1)1:Work^ca() | ^ca(1,xdotool key alt+2)2:Play^ca() | ^ca(1,xdotool alt+3)3:Fun^ca()" | dzen2 -p

How to change colors so that workspaces with windows and the current active one gets marked I have to think about a bit.

Concerning the processes I'm not quite sure what you mean, since OB does not "control" any processes besides xorg as far as I know - it manages windows. Do you mean a way to get a list of windows/apps running?

Yeah, that's the thing that's driving me nuts as well. As far as I can tell and have been able to find, ^ca is only not working for me. I've posted a screenshot to show just what happens. I even used the code that you provided.

As for getting a list of apps/windows running, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Some cli app that can tell me which programs ar running, and perferably in which workspace/desktop as well.

You're using the wrong version of dzen2. You have to use the following:

Ok, so I removed dzen2 with pacman and install dzen2-src with yaourt, and this is the new output of the same command: Aip1Es.png

So what is the version of dzen2 now? Type "dzen2 -v" and post the output here.

Ok, I'm stumped. A big fat ? and a wtf!

My best guess is that your system does something with ^'s that mine doesn't.
