I am running GNOME.
Ever since yesterday morning, every time I open up a QT application, something very interesting happens to my laptop. I have to take a screenshot of it using my cell phone, as the screenshot program gnome supplies doesn't catch the effect:
And here it is without QT apps open:
I have the most up to date versions of everything as of today, and the effect still occurs. Anyone know why this might be occuring?

Same thing here. Does it also start with running virtualBox by chance?

Yes, yes it does, as VirtualBox is also a QT app. Thank goodness I'm not alone.

I'm asking because If I start x, run a VLC (also a QT app) everything is normal, but after starting VirtualBox both VLC and VirtualBox mess up the screen.

That doesn't seem to be the case for me. If I start any QT app it occurs...though I can't say I've tried opening VLC first.
The effect occurs when I open up Skype, VirtualBox, Q Synth, and the QT Config box...those are all the programs I've tested at least.

I dont have that problem neither, do you have compiz enabled?? Could you try by disabling it and take a look if the problem disappears. I have recently updated (yesterday July 21st, 2009) and no problems here. I use virtualbox and I didn't see any weird behavior.

I don't have compiz enabled. I do have metacity's compositing enabled, but even after having disabled it, the effect persists.

Same here (FluxBox 1.1.1). Disappeared after removing VirtualBox
BTW, vbox can be used without GUI, I think it can be a partial solution.

Everything is fine here, so I guess it's an ATi driver issue (I have nvidia both at desktop and laptop).
