Re: No compositing after nVidia upgrade

Have you rebooted since the update? You may need to manually rmmod the nvidia module from the console if you haven't.

Re: No compositing after nVidia upgrade

The same thing  happened to me.  I installed acpid and made sure hal was early in my Daemons list(/etc/rc.conf) (I didn't add acpi(d) to daemons). Following the Xorg.0.log I went to /etc/X11/xorg.conf  and I commented (#) out freetype, xtrap and EnablePageFlip "true" and made sure the ServerFlags" section had "AutoAddDevices" "false" because my xorg logs showed problem with the keyboard too.I eneded specifying mouse and keyboard in xorg.conf.Your logs suggest you comment out "type1" line and others.  You know synaptics better to manage those errors if any.  Just go thru those logs and #/edit what is needed.
After those steps and a reboot  my desktop effects were back to normal  and the /var/log/ Xorg.0.log  no longer showed errors..

Re: No compositing after nVidia upgrade

I commented out freetype and type 1 in my xorg.conf but the Xorg.0.log prints out failed to load module type1 and freetype like before...no change I cannot enable the effects...There are two log files in /var/log one named Xorg.0.log and another named Xorg.1.old...Which one is the current one?I'm confused...
