I know there have been a lot of threads on the new CUPS 1.4, but there doesn't seem to be one on this problem (I posted in a different thread, but decided this is really a different issue with the new CUPS).
I upgraded to CUPS 1.4.1 and now it will only print one job and then gets stuck. After the first print job, the cups printer manager says any subsquent jobs are completed, but they never actually print. If I turn my printer on and off again, or unplug the USB cable and plug it back in, then CUPS will print once, and then same thing.
I have cups 1.4.1, udev 146-2, and Kernel 2.6.31. I'm using a Samsung ML-1740, with the foomatic driver.
When upgrading, I followed the instructions for blacklisting usblp in rc.conf. I did "chmod 664 /dev/bus/usb/005/002" after looking up my printer bus and device number with lsusb (although it wasn't clear to me if this was necessary with udev 146-2). I deleted my printer from the cups print manger and readded it. This got CUPS working (at first it didn't work at all), but then the only printing once issue arose.
There's a bug report on this here: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16107. But only a couple people have reported the issue in the bug report. Anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Anybody knows something about any progress in the matter of splix/cups 1.4?
EDIT:
Just checked splix page for appropriate bugs… well… el zoicho!
Also seen 474's bug report on cups.org
EDIT2:
Wait a minute! Has anybody tried to rebuild splix against new libcups? Package in repo seems to be compiled on 2 Feb 2009. I'll try this tomorrow… err… today

About trying to rebuild splix… I did it today and after a couple of tryout prints it seems to work okee. I took PKGBUILD from http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/communi … p=dl&rev=0 and one mod I did was removing 'cupsddk' from dependencies list. After replacing splix from repo with freshly built one printer seems to work properly again. Of course I'll put it into more intensive testing (daily office printing) and report the result at about end of this week.
Could you please check it yourself? I hope this solves the problem with you too.
UPDATE:
I've noticed that some jobs are still erroneously reported completed but not printed. Anyway printer doesn't have to be disconnected/power cycled to continue to work.

Thanks for the follow up posts. I'm still having this problem, with cups 1.4.2-1. I really want to use the foomatic driver, because splix prints off center for some reason. I suppose I could just reinstall foomatic, might that make a difference?

unlikely… but not impossible

Same trouble here. I have to reopen programs to get them to print again. It's been a big hassle since I work on 5-10 documents at a time. I have to close the app and reopen the file to get them to print. Cups logs show no errors. Does 1.4.2-2 fix anything? I saw that in the testing repo I think...
