Refresh problem in OpenOffice 3.1 when scrolling

There's a problem with OpenOffice Writer on a 64 bit Arch Linux installation with KDE 4.3.x: scrolling does not refresh the view. Only when you resize the window, the actual contents are painted.

I have seen some similar posts on this forum and elsewhere, this is what I have tried:

* Switched from xf86-video-ati to xf86-video-radeonhd
* Added these exports to ~/.bashrc:

export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome
export SAL_GTK_USE_PIXMAPPAINT=1

* Installed the kde4-oxygen theme from AUR, as suggested somewhere else.
* Tried both go-openoffice and openoffice, both show the same problem (latest version).
* Disabled/enabled the hardware acceleration option in the OOo settings.

I have not updated Xorg to the latest version on this machine. It's not my own machine and I have seen the trouble it causes on my own machine, so I'm waiting a while before I'll try that. Are there any other suggestions?
