Slow refresh rate in certain applications

Hi,

for several weeks, my X window system has been extremely slow at changing the window contents of certain applications, especially all Java apps, Thunderbird, Xine and totem, e.g. when I click a button in a java program it needs up to ten seconds to react. Although sadly I cannot date it exactly, the bug has appeared some time after the installation of Arch Linux, so it's obviously not a hardware defect, and it's the same with Xfwm and Openbox, so it's not the window manager. Any idea?

Thanks!

John

edit: the reason for the defect has to be somewhere else, please close this topic.

Re: Slow refresh rate in certain applications

What immediately comes to my mind, since several problems have been reported, is the new X server 1.7 and kernel mode setting (introduced with kernel 2.6.31 and enabled by default).
